If you’ve wondered why I haven’t written a single word on this blog recently, it’s partly because we’ve been hosting lots of out-of-town guests, and partly because I’ve been up to my ears in paper butterflies and royal icing. Sam turned two this weekend, and we celebrated with a butterfly-themed brunch in honor of Sam’s obsession with all things lepidoptera. He’s loved butterflies since he could discern their shape, and unlike many passing childhood fascinations, this one hasn’t waned a bit. If you’re interested, and you ask him, he will gladly point out to you the difference between a blue morpho and a tiger swallowtail, a zebra longwing and a buckeye. So, for his second birthday, we dreamed up an entomologist’s paradise: a butterfly garden in our backyard.
